I enjoyed McPhee's "In Suspect Terrain" and "Basin and Range" too. Both very good reads.
McPhee is one of my favorite authors. He would be more popular which the environmental movement, but for one book, Encounters with the Archdruid, about his conversations with a pillar of the Sierra Club.
