Donald Trump made the Village People "great again" for conservatives, and now the 1970s disco group will be featured during his inauguration weekend, along with Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Why it matters: Trump is personally picking his celebration's musical acts to represent his eclectic tastes, an inauguration official tells Axios. The Village People earned a special place in MAGA world because their 1978 hit "YMCA" inspired what's now known as "The Trump Dance" (yes, it has a Wikipedia entry).

Cyrus also will perform at the rally, as will Kid Rock, who was featured at the Republican National Convention last summer in Milwaukee.
Country singer Jason Aldean, whose 2023 hit "Try That in a Small Town" was an unofficial MAGA anthem during Trump's campaign, will play at the inaugural ball on Monday, hours after Trump is sworn in as president.
Rascal Flatts, which broke through with their 2006 cover of "Life is a Highway," also is on the ball's run of show.
As reported previously, singer Carrie Underwood is scheduled to sing "America the Beautiful" at the inauguration ceremony.
Opera singer Christopher Macchio will sing the national anthem, and Lee Greenwood will perform "Proud to Be an American," Trump's walk-on song.
We need to get enough critical mass to shame the TDS crowd.
YMCA! π
How old are Those People?
[And what are their pronouns?]
Only original member is Victor Willis, age 73.
I was at the 2017 Firworks show at the Lincoln Memorial it was unforgettable.
Never mind the inauguration. Any opportunity to do the YMCA dance is reason enough. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Part on dudes!”
They should get this guy to visit several other the venues that do not have the Village People.

As well as any excuse to take it away from the gays who tried to hijack it into their anthem.
A movie which features the Village People.
A review from IMDB comment section.
Funniest P*O*S in History 24 January 2003 This is the best bad movie of all time. Ofcourse that means Steve Guttenberg and disco music are in it. I saw this once, ten years ago and will never ever forget it. The construction worker of the Village People does a musical number about milk. The film was directed by the late Nancy Walker of "quicker picker upper" fame. Bruce Jenner stars. The bizzarre factoids surrounding this film never quit. Whoever can watch this and not repeatedly laugh out loud needs to check their pulse. I fear my compulsion to buy the dvd. God help me, the howling indian. Classic badness.
And of course, saw this on Reddit, “Are the Village People now persona non grata because they’re playing the Trump inauguration?”
And a moronic response -
“This is even more reason to claim YMCA as a gay anthem because it pisses that one guy off.”
Has he not seen Trump dance to this tune?!
OMG... That is so GOOD. I couldn’t stop laughing.
A few weeks ago, I believe that Willis put out a statement that it is NOT a “gay anthem”. He said he’s going to have his wife (who runs the business, I assume) sue anyone who mentions the gay anthem stuff starting 2025. Some of the group were gay; some weren’t.
That Indian guy has some F@#$in’ fantastic skin cream. The others look like shriveled apples.
