The nominee argued that if Ukraine is not in a strong position to negotiate it will be imposed "neutrality" only for Russia to rearm and attack the country again.
Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio highlighted the need to support Ukraine in its war with Russia in order for Kyiv to be in the best position possible to negotiate a ceasefire. Otherwise, he said, Russian President Vladimir Putin will seek to impose "neutrality" on the country to buy time and attempt another large-scale invasion.
Rubio made the assessment while claiming the war needs to end and criticizing the Biden administration for "not delineating an end goal." The "however much for however long" approach is not "realistic," Rubio said during his confirmation hearing.
In that context, he said the "war of attrition" is taking a heavy toll on both countries, but it is unlikely any will achieve total victory.

Consequently, he said the key will be to avoid an outcome where Putin has "maximum leverage so he can impose neutrality on Ukraine, rearm and do this again in four, five years." "It is important for Ukrainians to have leverage but they will have to make concessions too," Rubio said, echoing President-elect Donald Trump's call for an end to the war.

Ukraine concession: Lower damages, convict every other Russian war criminal.
Big demand: return the children and their parents.
Wow. Rubio said he was angling for good conditions for a ceasefire, and you respond as if he was out for the conquest of Russia.
The guy that came up with the notion that the enemy of your enemy is your friend was Satan.
The guy that wrote it down was trying to attract allies in his quest to destroy civilization.
Rubio... the Foam Boy expert on war, ISIS, and anything McCain taught him. He is going to be a problem. He isn’t that bright, and he has always been all in on Ukraine.
Translated, he said he wants a cease fire, a neutral Ukraine but with a post cease-fire arms build up, and all sanctions remain on Russia and he will seek to confiscate their impounded cash and gold.
He was a poor choice, little different than Blinken. I cannot see any big policy difference.
You call it using ethnic Russians to “stage” an invasion. The Azov and Right Sector nazi militias were shelling, murdering, conducting ethnic cleansing with prohibitions against laying flowers at cemetery and war memorials, legally banning the widely spoken Russian language, burning and banning Russian classic books and literature.
That wasn’t using them to stage an invasion. It was a legal response to ethnic cleansing in progress. And there was no war Russia is ever going to accept a Nazi memorializing Army right up to it’s border. The May before the invasion Zelinsky was even saying Ukraine needed to acquire nuclear weapons.
People act like this war is some grab all of Europe expansion, or some fight only explainable by Putin being a psychopath.
Until people recognize reality, they will remain lost.
Rubio....... intellectual.
Processing that....

Putin spent about 10 months very clearly stating his case, establishing his red line, and asking numerous times for negotiations. We pointedly ignored them all, and kept up with the provocations. We sailed British and American warships less than three miles off of Sevastopol Crimea and claimed we had the permission of Ukraine.
They issued a final ultimatum and request for negotiations on the status of Ukraine. We responded that we would do what we want, and would only talk to them on other topics we deemed worthy... but not Ukraine. The Nazi army was massing to assault the Donbass to grab it for Kiev.
So they got attacked, after Ukraine and NATO aggressively responded to 10 months of warnings.
Unreal. As someone else pointed out, maybe Trump is trying to poison him from being a Vance competitor in 2028. I hope there is something like that going on and not Trump actually
trusting him.
What does that have to do with JD Vance. I think maybe you replied to the wrong post
Both sides will have to make Consesons, or they cam keep slaughtering eachother while we wash our hands of it. I could care less about either Nation right now, OUR FIGHT IS HERE.
Both can make concessions or keep dying
There choice.
Sounds series. What stark warning?

Putin is almost out of money. He wants to cut a deal where he keeps Donbass and Donesk and Ukraine never joins NATO.
Agree!
It’s not about JD Vance. You were suggesting that Marco Rubio might have to resign because his opinions about Russia are so much more hawkish than Trump, but he’s working towards a ceasefire, like Trump wants.
