When we listen to someone giving a speech, we also listen to the tone of voice and inflection on pronunciation to get the true feeling as to what he is saying. Much like the difference of talking to someone versus reading a text. So when the signer is making what you call faces, he is trying to portray the feelings of the person giving the speech by his tone of voice. I wish people were not so ignorant to try and understand how people without the same sensory perception that they have to live and understand one another.
When I said it’s the “look at me” it’s the politicians I was talking about meaning I have a signer..I’m someone.
As for all the facial expressions of the signers I don’t get it. I read a book and I have no problem understanding the feelings or intent of the words I’m reading.
How can you watch facial expressions and watch what’s being signed especially when a signer is repeating what a politician is saying at a news conference. The politicians have no feelings 99% of the time.
As for hearing, mine sucks. I can’t watch a movie without CC on because I just here mumbling because of the background noise, music etc in movies. Sometimes treading the CC I miss things in the movie. The constant tinnitus doesn’t help either and I avoid loud places because it’s just noise. Hearing aids just amplify the noise and I have goods that are also directional.
I don’t read sign language and I’ve tried to read lips in noisy areas and at best that’s beyond amusing so I usually just nod or just flat out say, I don’t know what you’re saying.
To each his own.
