As the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter gets underway, a host of ex-presidents and first ladies were seen exchanging pleasantries before taking their seats. However, one past presidential couple made a conscious effort to avoid any interaction with President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump.
The video shows Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton entering the cathedral alongside the reverend, being guided to their seats by a guard. They exchange greetings with former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife before settling down next to former President George W. Bush and Barbara Bush without so much as a glance in the Trumps' direction.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump seems completely unaware of this as he chats with former President Barack Obama while Melania sits quietly on her own.
The ex-model stands out in the crowd in her long black peacoat with a strikingly large white collar. Trump has been vocal in his criticism of the Clintons in the past, calling for an investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, her husband, and the Clinton Foundation, accusing them of fraud and collusion.
Melania Trump's outfit at Jimmy Carter's funeral, particularly her oversized white collar, drew attention, with some saying she "looks like a nun." Jimmy Carter's sharp critique on the Colbert show sparked a long-standing feud with Donald Trump, the Irish Star reported.
Former Vice President Pence and his wife, Karen, also seemed to deliberately avoid making eye contact with the Trumps.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama, who has had her share of tension with Melania Trump, was notably missing from the event. Michelle has been candid about her struggles during her time in the White House, crediting her faith and belief in her husband as her sources of strength.
I still laugh looking at it!
Don’t be. It is all an act.
probably had a few early nips
Dan Quayle / Potatoe Potato
I see dethroned Justin Trudeau took another free trip to be there
Pence does whatever the commander in wife says.
Thanks!
I didn’t even recognize that she was someone I should have recognized.
They’re all potatoes now.
Bill looks like he has had a face lift.
I like to see leaders who are of opposing views or even the same views behave together as ladies and gentlemen. That is what I was gratified to see between those two men.
I don’t like to see those of high office and distinction behave as if they cannot control themselves in proper fashion at a dignified event. The room filled with family members, friends and aquaintences grieving the loss of their loved one and one of our Presidents. This was not the time for personal grievances to be on display.
I admire someone can show the ability to treat everyone with equal consideration, regardless of their opposing views. It does not mean they share those views, but instead showing the ability to get ahold of the better angels of their nature. Rising above personal feelings out of respect for the moment.
The place they were in was a National Funeral for an elected official, one of our Presidents of the United States and held in a Cathedral. Viewed on the world stage they represent the highest office of the land and our Country. No more important time to behave civily. I was gratified to see it being done well between those two men.
Those who refused to look at someone in the eye, holding an icy stare, refusing to speak to someone suggests a person unable to control their emotions, looks low and is a poor reflection for them and of our Country.
The Clintons were at the other end of the row from Trump -,and just greeted the people nearby. If there was any snubbing it was when Bush walked past Trump.
They are trying to make a story out of nothing.
Small point - Melania’s outfit was more reminiscent of a Pilgrim than a nun. As far as whether or not it was appropriate - I had no problem with it. But what do I know?
Mrs. Trump lost her mom a year ago today.
See my reply #112.
That may have had something to do with what she was wearing.
I doubt she wanted to spend this day where she did.
Thank you for pointing that out. That would explain a lot.
She definitely looked somber.
You’re welcome.
The mirror must be the place you go to read garbage and hate. What a BUNCH of low-class useless tools they don’t even care they are at a FUNERAL. The National Enquire was better reading than this drivel.
