"life evolved to suit the environment that it is in"

On its face, that's not altogether unreasonable, but it is no longer simply "life" that plays well with others -- it's inanimate matter, energy states, and laws of physics that now are regarded as so well-adjusted to reality that they seem to have "evolved." Would you say that they could do that? Or that everything just by happenstance started out in perfect working order?
