The beginning of the best ten years in music history. Then the music died.

Just a single week of Billboard, but some all-time greatest hits. Amazing.

Absolutely, my high school years were ‘66 - ‘70. Great artists and years for music.

What a list, and we used to take that for granted, just like the still famous TV shows, hitting golf balls on the moon, historical scientific and medical breakthroughs almost being routine, few recognized what the poison pill of the new, barely reported immigration law was going to bring.

What an amazing list.

What’s even more amazing is that none of the songs sound alike. All were unique in their own way.

Unlike today’s pop music where there is just ONE song and many minor variations of that same crappy sone.

I just played those songs this week. I’m now playing country music from 1965, via : https://playback.fm/charts

Back in those long lost days, my radio listening involved exploring the airwaves, and I found stations like WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia and their Jamboree program. That's when I learned to love real country music and bluegrass.

Most R&R at the time did little for me. The trouble with top 40 radio was that for every song I enjoyed, there were a dozen or so that I couldn't care less about. That all changed for me a couple of years later as top 40 gave way to the progressive rock era, largely on FM, but in '65 I was on a different path than most of my peers.

What a long strange trip its been, and I'm glad I didn't miss it!
