something with a nervous system yes, a brain to inhabit, but an object? respectfully I’m going to say no. Demons are bad enough.

Having thought on this a bit I would suggest two theories.
First, the pigs do not have human souls, so the demons normally have no motive to possess pigs. Demons possess humans to torture the human soul and lead it to damnation. Occasionally you do hear of a demon possessed pet (The Son of Sam), but I am of the opinion that person reporting this is actually demon obsessed or possessed.
Second. The pigs only wanted to possess the pigs to escape the fires of Hell. Having possessed the pigs the demons forced the pigs to run off the cliff to escape the pigs bodies. When the pigs died the demons were released from pigs' bodies.
