The Bulldogs were in the second quarter of a scoreless game when quarterback Gunner Stockton dropped in a dime to wide receiver Arian Smith against Notre Dame’s defense for a 67-yard gain. As a defender dragged Stockton down, the side judge, JB Garza, was hugging Georgia’s sideline following the play downfield. However, Garza collided with Georgia redshirt sophomore cornerback Parker Jones, who was not suited up for the game and slightly crossed over the sideline in excitement. Garza flagged the play for interference, erasing the big gain and pushing Georgia’s offense back 15 yards to the Fighting Irish’s 26-yard line, leading to Bulldog’s kicking a field goal.

in real football weather. Which they should be.

Amen brother! Domes are for sissies. I don't pay attention to NFL games but I make sure I watch the ones played outdoors when it's cold as heck and snowing.

My favorite team is Green Bay. Not because of the team, but rather Lambeau field and games played in the snow.

This is the way football should be played...LOL!

Corrections? With the destruction of the PAC-12 (for greed’s sake), who in the West gives a damn about college football (except for the gamblers).

I think the championship game should be a play in game. You win, automatic berth. You lose, you’re out.

How would that work?

To take just one example, but one possibly at the top of this year’s chatterstorm, a lot of people rode the “Indiana didn’t play anyone” bandwagon. It got tiresome. Yes, the Big XX standings got weird this year ... but just for the record, “only dates losers” IU DID play and beat defending national champion Michigan and Washington, which lost to Michigan in last year’s championship game. Would playing last year’s “1 and #2 teams meet your strength of schedule test?

We are not surprised if last year’s champion slips a notch, but I can’t imagine a scheduling committee with the superior Jedi mind powers to anticipate that last year’s top two teams would both fall off the cliff.

Although Michigan maybe didn’t fall that far, since they rebounded to upset Ohio State and then embarrass an Alabama team that was surfing the SEC amen chorus despite losing to Vanderbuilt and not having played a good team outside of the SEC echo chamber. And then there’s Tennessee, which got crushed by Ohio State, the only credible non-SEC team that they faced.

How are you proposing to establish a two game window for quality regular season non-conference games — and do this for every team in the sport — without knowing in advance that Michigan, Washington, and based on regular season records and common opponents, Alabama and Tennessee, were all weaker than Indiana based on scores against common opponents?

If I had that kind of predictive power, I would not offer my services to the NCAA. I would be richer than Elon Musk from my gambling winnings, and the gambling interests would have been bankrupted by now.

You would have to base it on the previous season, kind of like how the NFL does their schedule based on how teams finished the previous season.

Agreed. In terms of dealing with weather in an outdoor sport, women’s soccer is now a manlier sport than college and professional football.

Based on the previous season? Ok, so next year, we would know to seed Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan and Washington among the dogs?

I have a better idea. One team per conference, with no conference championship games. Play a conference roundrobin and the team with the best record is the champion. Win your league or stay home.

Yes, the bloated television marketing consortiums would have to break up and convert back into real conferences. This would be a good thing. But the powers that be will do the opposite. How long will it be before Texas and Florida jump to the Big XX, because they represent the two biggest tv markets not already in that league?

Personally if it were up to me, I would go with Pro/Reg like Soccer, you’ve got 135 Division 1 teams. I would create maybe 5-6 levels. With each team playing ever other team in their level.

The Top-Tier would be 12 teams, who all play each other, at the end, the top two teams would play each other at the home stadium of the team that finished top of the table.
