Congratulations on your retirement, BTW!

Thanks, P-Chop! Thanks Snowybear, thanks all!
Well, technically, I was retired at midnight Sunday night, but in order to be eligible for this “maybe” severance payout, I had to extend it through this week. So I’m employed until Friday, on vacation, and have filled out the necessary paperwork to get things rolling on this. No harm to me really - I couldn’t do my job if I wanted because as of Sunday night, my access to the networks and such where our EMS and other programs reside was revoked. Not even sure if I still have my clearance. It would take a couple of weeks to reinstate my access, I think.
It’s interesting - I had planned this retirement for the end of 2024, long before they officially announced the severance. But when initially announced, I was going to have to stay another 5+ months to get it, and I’d lose about 6 weeks of excess vacation leave time I’d built up over the last year - so after doing the math, severance minus lost leave time, the net wasn’t enough to keep me around.
So long story short, I chose to NOT take the severance and instead retired as planned. Then they offered up this little package whereby I get my severance and my excess leave time, and still get to retire basically at the beginning of January. Now, I may not get the severance, but I’m not really out of anything. 1 extra week on the clock, putting money towards retirement (not much money, mind you) and a last little chunk into the retirement savings.
