Rep. Thomas Massie calls Johnson a "potato" who has blown the budget and should not be Speaker!
The Hill ^ | 12/30/24 7:38 PM ET | by Lauren Irwin

... Burchett’s GOP colleague, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), has explicitly said he will not be voting for Johnson to remain Speaker. He publicly disagreed with Trump and criticized Johnson as a “potato” who has blown the budget.

If Massie votes against Johnson, he can only afford one more vote against him if all House members are present and choose to vote on the matter.

Several Republicans, like Burchett, haven’t committed to voting for Johnson ahead of Friday’s vote.

I think the old saw is: “Democraps circle the wagons, Republicans form a circular firing squad.”

President Trump Endorses Mike Johnson for Speaker

December 31, 2024 | Sundance |

On one hand a large segment of the Republican party base does not seem to support Mike Johnson, the alligator emojis coalition certainly does not. However, on the other hand, almost everyone supports President Trump sans the alligator emoji tribe.

President Trump is trying to avoid a painful Speaker battle again and officially endorsing Mike Johnson for another term as Speaker of the House via his Truth Social account.

“We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024. ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS (Despite large scale voter fraud taking place in numerous states, including California, where votes are ridiculously still being counted, or under review!), ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, & PROFESSIONALISM.

Republicans are being praised for having run a “legendary” campaign! Democrats are being excoriated for their effort, having wasted 2.5 Billion Dollars, much of it unaccounted for, with some being used to illegally buy endorsements ($11,000,000 to Beyoncé, who never even sang a song, $2,000,000 to Oprah for doing next to nothing, and even $500,000 to Reverend AL, a professional con man and instigator, who agreed to “interview” their “star spangled” candidates, Kamala and Joe).

We ran a flawless campaign, having spent FAR LESS, with lots of money left over. They ran a very expensive “sinking ship,” embracing DOJ & FBI WEAPONIZATION against their political opponent, ME. BUT IT DIDN’T WORK, IT WAS A DISASTER!!!

LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN. The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!” (read more)

It will be interesting to see what the House republicans do in the vote this Friday.

WASHINGTON DC – […] Trump’s endorsement comes as Johnson faced some resistance from Hill conservatives ahead of Friday’s vote, but the president-elect’s backing could stifle other opposition. The slim GOP majority in the House for Friday’s vote means that Johnson can only afford to lose two Republican votes. Democrats are expected to universally oppose Johnson, and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has already signaled his opposition.

Johnson has been quietly calling House Republicans in an effort to quell some of the brewing dissent, according to two Republicans familiar with the conversations who were granted anonymity to discuss them.

Johnson has committed to maintaining better communication with his GOP members, after the internal GOP chaos of the federal funding meltdown infuriated House Republicans before the holidays. Some members left the Capitol for the holidays openly saying that they felt deceived by the speaker and warned that his gavel was at risk Jan. 3.

Many Republicans see Trump’s endorsement as a critical boost for Johnson. (more)

100% agree. And why the GOPe will lose the house in 2026 like they always do if the past is any indication.

What is Massie’s motive here?

Can Johnson be named as part of the Continuing Resolution with a expiration date of whenever in March the current CR expires? The pub majority is better then than it is now, correct?

“criticized Johnson as a “potato” who has blown the budget”

Whatever budget really exists, it was blown years ago. It is ridiculous to believe Johnson is the sole destroyer of a fake budget and to jeopardize Trump’s agenda along with any appearance of Republican’s unity. One thing we never heard from the democrats under Pelosi was calling her a potato. Screw Massie.

Same situation occurred in 2016, after Trump was elected. Trump endorsed Paul Ryan as Speaker. Ryan helped protect Obamacare and continued all the reckless spending and the GOP lost the House majority in 2018, thus ending Trump’s real opportunity for change. Massie voted against Ryan. Trump endorsed Ryan. Who was right?

His motive is to not support the Speaker who has collaborated with Democrats more than Republicans to pass spending that continues every reckless Deep State idiocy with nothing gained for our side. Trump supported Paul Ryan in 2016 like he is supporting Johnson now. The GOP then lost the House majority under Ryan as he acted exactly like the Uniparty tool that he is. Which is why Massie did not vote for him then.

“Liz Cheney as Speaker?!!
Is anyone promoting this idea?
Who would dare?”

She’s certainly acceptable to the Democrats, and that is the can of worms that gets opened if Republicans get a bit too cute.

I believe that most House Republicans, like so many before them, do not know or understand what the word “govern” means and so are incapable of governing - the current lot proves the point.

Yeah, stomping some geek's head into the ground
So keep the faith, 'cause in Massie you can trust
He won't give up 'til this last spineless, craven, gaslighting, pencil neck Speakership bites the dust!

Massie for Speaker, we need a modern Diogenes now!

  1. Massies is not playing games
  2. Trump will exhault in great Victory regardless of outcome

Johnson IS a potato, but the word is unprofessional and childish. Maybe he could’ve said that Johnson’s mother wears combat boots.

I hate Johnson, but we have to get over this IMMEDIATE hump, and then deal with the Speaker issue later on. AFTER certification and inauguration.

Massey is not grandstanding but standing fast.

Politics is the art of the possible. Wha thing, what concrete thing, is it possible for Massey and his ilk to achieve over the next three weeks, with these antics? And by “concrete thing” I don’t mean “Why his brave stance is an inspiration, and gives me the same warm feeling I get from thinking about Mom, the Flag, and Apple Pie, or pi$$ing my pants.”
