Both Musk and Ramaswamy are wrong. I have a son, graduated top of his class in high school and college, is an electro/mechanical engineer, interned for 2 years at NASA, and can’t even get an interview. The kid has a well rounded background, is multi-skilled and won a nationwide talent search for the one company he did find work at that went through a re-organization due to economic reasons and got laid off.
So don’t tell the talent doesn’t exist in this country. These kids are out there, U.S. companies don’t want them they want slaves.

I work for a worldwide company that designs and manufactures heavy industrial equipment. Almost all of the engineering design was based in the US for many decades. I have noticed your statement above to be true. We are trying to groom engineers in India instead of hiring engineers here in the US. I don’t think it is a shortage of engineering talent in the US (but I could be wrong). I think it is because we are going for cheap labor.
