Mighta been the safe thing to do. Land on water. It’s softer and won’t blow the plane up. Reminds me of the movie “None But the Brave”. A DC-3 carrying marines crash landed on a beach. They hit the water first. Then the beach.

Ok so it was Russians that shot them down and Russians who jammed the radio. Might saved them.

As usual, nothing but the most sensationalistic and unsubstantiated propaganda from the Daily Fail.

The back end of the plane was peppered with bullet or shrapnel holes. Looks like a friendly fire accident. But forcing the plane out over the Caspian is weird.

I suppose gunners might have mistaken the plane for a drone, but a full-sized airliner from the south doesn’t really look like a drone coming from the west.

Sounds a bit like more Anti-Russia, butt kissing Ukraine “journalism”.

First, who fired the missile? It is totally immaterial that the missile was made in Russia. So, the US now gets blamed for every bit of ordinance from our factories? That is BS.
If Russia ordered the firing, that is a different thing. But, still justified.
Bases in Azer (I am not going to spell that out every time) wereunder heavy attack of numerous drones. That is why everyone was warned away from the area and there was radar and GPS jamming. That is why US airlines are banned from serving in that area.
That is also why the plane was banned from landing in Azer. How is a defending party supposed to know that the plane is not a suicide plane filled with explosives? What, the US has never been rammed by planes?
Blaming Russia is how the airline, who should have known better, avoids payouts to the passengers they put at risk. It is about a clause in their insurance policy.
