I thought Hollywood was having great box-office success with present crop of movies like “wicked,” “Muana 2,” and “Gladiator 2??”
I don’t follow the industry, so it all seems contradictory.
Hollywood only had about 10 real successes the whole year. Most of their movies lost movie, some of them for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Keep in mind, that the vast majority of the movies, TV programs, and assorted short features are now a product not of Hollywood, California, but have fled to Canada, Georgia, and Many overseas locations. Hollywood’s best days are now in the rear view mirror.
Did a quick query and saw this...take with grain of salt.
IMO, I am thinking Hollywood is declining.
According to recent reports, US theater revenue in 2024 is projected to be lower than in 2023, with a significant drop in the summer box office, showing a decrease of around 10% compared to the previous year; meaning that theaters are expected to earn considerably less revenue in 2024 than they did in 2023.
More people probably watch video shorts, or Rumble or YouTube videos than TV’s or big screen movies.
When movie industry stake their claim on meaningful and not or woke or “marginalized” community topics, there could be a substantial comeback. Since so many movies are CGI enhanced, or even dominated there is no reason that any person with the skills and a few fast computers couldn’t make a big screen hit.
So tech advances fuel the demise of the old tech...like talkies ruined silent film studios, or TV ruined live concerts and radio.
