The Vatican is set to open five sacred portals starting on Christmas Eve for the first time in 25 years.

The opening of the Holy Doors marks the beginning of the 2025 Jubilee which is a year of forgiveness, reconciliation and renewed focus on the spiritual life....

At the start of Christmas Eve Mass, Pope Francis will push open the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica, which will stay open throughout the year to allow the estimated 32 million pilgrims projected to visit Rome to pass through....

The process of opening the four basilica doors involves removing the brick wall that covers each door from the inside of the basilica, followed by the Pope pushing the doors open to signal the beginning of the Holy Year.

When Jubilee finishes on January 6, 2026, the Pope will be the last person to walk through each of the four doors before closing them, which will then be bricked up and sealed....

BarbM:

fr who hates the Church? this sounds like a dissident priest you are referring to. Is this a priest in your local diocese or someone in the public space.

Unfortunately they have been seduced the forces of the world but Christ is still in charge of His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

And thanks for the post and Merry Christmas to you. God Bless

BarbM:

Oh, well I doubt he is a priest then. I saw fr in front of his name and I thought he as a Catholic priest posting here. Could be masquerading as one.

The person you mentioned I have not dealt with. And not going to tell me anything that I will not tell him or her right back.

I didn’t make the weird rules of the Catholic church. When American Catholics come to Italy they are usually in denial of what transpires in their home church. Not my problem. I was pushed down by the Vatican guards for moving too slowly. No warning and I hit the ground hard. If I’d been pregnant there would have been a lawsuit. The magic doors are very real to Italian Catholics and indulgences bought you forgiveness, just like those doors (once in a lifetime walk I was told). So much manmade doctrine in the Catholic church. Just read the bible to learn what God said. Too much has been added. It is offensive to God, frankly.

Matthew 15:9

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

What is offensive to you is your problem not mine. I stand by what I said. Indulgences have nothing to do with forgiveness of sins. Indulgences are something done that relate to the temporal consequences of sin. When we sin it has consequences for yes our own soul but someone else is impacted by our sin. So an Indulgence can only be given to one after they have confessed their sins via the Sacrament of Confession, you can’t be in venial sin. And indulgence can be done for ones self or for the souls in purgatory, not someone else among the living.

So one can go promise to go to daily Mass and pray for the souls in purgatory as an indulgence for them or do the same for oneself.

And I don’t need a protestant heretic to tell me what is in the Bible nor what Rev. Bubba and sister Ethel say at the local 1st strip mall congregation of the what is happening now.

You mean like sola scriptura, the pre-trib rapture, and OSAS?

Campion....if you think walking through one of those doors will save you get your plane ticket and head on over.

BUT I can assure you walking through one of those doors is not going to save you.

Well I was very clear on the subject at hand, the person I responded to rather than make their points and engage the topic went with how offended they are and made statements that were not true. How do they know who and what the people going to Saint Peters are, what they did, or even if they were Catholic or actually a Catholic who understands what a Jubilee year is and what one is asked to do.

So don’t level charges at someone or something you know nothing about and when there is push back play the victim

Is you engage in theological discussion with me civilly and listening to what one holds regarding Doctrine, I will engage in kind.

When Christ died the veil in the Temple separating people from the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom. The Holy of Holies was where God's presence was and could only be accessed by the priest.

The tearing of the veil indicated God was now available to all without intervention of a human priest as Christ became our priest.

RCs have rebuilt a "veil" in the form of a door.

IF forgiveness was an essential aspect of Roman Catholicism......why aren't these doors open all the time?

What if the poor Roman Catholic doesn't make it this time or doesn't live long enough to pass through one of these doors??

What a convoluted belief system.

he Holy Door of Saint Peters which is only opened for Jubilee years was opened last night for the first time since 2000 when Pope John Paul II opened it.

But in the Bible, Jubilee is every 50 years.

I have already explained what the Holy Door symbolizes, it is a Door to Saint Peters. The Door/gate and opening it is a visible reminder for all to open the door to Christ [John 10:37] was read at the Liturgical ceremony when Pope Francis opened the door to Saint Peters on Christmas eve.

The Church is where Christ makes Himself and means of His Grace fully available in the Sacraments, i.e. visible signs of God’s Grace [yes I know your view of sacraments is different].

So one is called in a jubilee year to 1st go back to confession and ask forgiveness for sins committed, then work on reconciliation in proper order, family members that we have had a fallen out, friends and others at the local parish, and pursue reconciliation with fellow Catholics and then take that and work for peace and reconciliation with others.

https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2024-12/pope-francis-opens-holy-door-ushering-in-the-jubilee-of-hope.html#:~:text=As%20Pope%20Francis%20opened%20the,2025%20Jubilee%20Year%20of%20Hope.

The article above gives a pretty quick and clear concise of what the Jubilee year 2025 is about. Not saying you agree with it, but at least you will see what it actually is, not some caricature per what we have read in many posts in this thread already.

According to Josephus, the priests added a cord to the veil every year. When it was torn, the veil was about two feet thick. No human could have torn it, much less from top to bottom.

It's a heresy.
