Harris replaced and pollsters all collectively decided to change their turnout models to add women and black votes to their target %s. Meaning:

Time passed. Surveys were taken to actually measure what the turnout model should be (Hello? You’re black? Will you be voting?) and found no more blacks and no more women were going to turnout than had planned to early July. Presto, the Harris “lead” began to disappear.
The MOE was about 3% for all of this stuff. Trump won popular vote by 2%, well within that MOE.
The polls were pretty damn good.
