Remember the posters hanging on lamp post with the pics of the gang and a slash through them when they were caught?
I remember the posters. Not the lined-out ones.
I was working one day and happened to look out my office window to see a trashed Mercedes limo (subdued yellow-brown color) hauled into the motor pool on a trailer. Parts of the body had peeled away revealing the kevlar/ceramic chicken plate armor.
I walked over to talk to the motor pool guys from the 3/63d Armor (I knew a few of them) and got the story.
Apparently some Spec-4 was driving it from the factory to replace one that was blown up in Heidelberg (Frankfurt?) by the BMB (Baader-Meinhof-Bund) using an RPG shot off a bridge as it was chauffeuring some high-ranking General officer and the kid fell asleep, rolled the thing as it went off the Autobahn between München and Augsburg. Totaled.
I rushed home during lunch to grab my camera but when I got back the trailer had been moved inside a controlled area to avoid such exposure.
