Trump has never been a National Review type conservative.

For example he was for gay marriage long before Barky and the Hildabeast were.

Sure he’s an economic conservative. That’s because it works and he has in effect said so.

So Trump's tent is pretty wide.

The challenge for Trump's successor in 2024 is to hold his coalition together. The base of the Republican is socially conservative but the average American voter is socially liberal.

Trump's strategy was to redirect from the abortion issue and it worked. The Left wanted to make it all about abortion but they've failed.

Trump is a Federalist about abortion, that it should be up to the states to determine, after the initial leftist hysteria, voters focused on other issues such as inflation and Biden/Kamala ineptness.

Everyone who wasn't a total low-info knew the Supreme Court decision left abortion up to the states. I was stunned, therefore, to see constant Dem-PAC commercials during the campaign which were absolute blatant lies, inferring that Donald Trump himself would somehow outlaw abortion.

The complete dishonesty was truly breathtaking.

Both parties do better if they accept the 2022 decision approach to keep Abortion as a State issue & not a Federal issue. If people want abortions we cannot stop them from international travel to do so. We cannot bomb all countries to obey DC. And the Constitution doesn’t list health care in Article 1 Section 8. The world, including America, is tired of DC being a bully.
