One possibility that's being put out is that these drones are a super-secret US operation, so secret that even our military is "in the dark".

If that is true, the counter argument is always why not take these to the vast, western tracts with little or no population to observe them. The answer may lie in what tests or measurements are being performed.

The truth is that highly populated areas are electronically "noisy" areas, full of microwave energy from millions of sources in all directions. If your objective is to track a moving target that emits some form of energy, it is the perfect environment.

The “too dangerous to shoot down” mantra is hilarious.

If the drones were flying over the White House the anti-aircraft weapons on the roof would be firing thousands of rounds per second—without waiting for any orders from anyone.
