If for no other reason the kids should stand to show appreciation for (1) living in this relatively free and prosperous country and (2) having the taxpayers pay for their education. If they don’t want to cite the pledge they should at least show a modicum of respect by getting out of their seat and standing up to show respect. Its not too much to ask.

My argument to that punk kid was that he should stand as a sign of respect to those who died to defend our country. All I got back was a smirk.
By the way, some court somewhere had ruled that students could not be forced to recite the Pledge, as that was a free speech violation. However, it was okay to require them to stand.
It was our weak and pathetic school board that removed the requirement to stand.
This was in a 100% Democrat-controlled city. So that really shouldn’t have been a surprise to me.
