Thankfully I went to school with my wife and got married 4 months after highschool and no kids for 4 years.

Can’t imagine being so desperate I’d need to go on an online dating site to find someone.”

That’s the way hubby and I did it. We met in middle school, started dating in high school, and married just after I’d turned 17 and he’d turned 18. I don’t think I could just pick a person online based upon the info they were willing to provide and then meet them for a date.

IMHO...that is what we’re all meant to do. This idea that we all get higher education, then ‘get experience’, then ‘settle down’ in your late 20’s, is a bad model and doesn’t align biologically - or mentally/emotionally respective to pair bonding.

Before dating apps, people would usually know each other first, already have an attraction, due to various known qualities, before going on a date - blind-dates were more rare. Dating apps have turned that on its head. Now we have a game where the top 10% of men are sought after by 90% of the women (who all think they’re ‘a 10’). The men being required to be 6+ft tall, 6-pack abs, 6-figure salary. Women are expecting a $200 first date at some fine restaurant, after lying on their profile and using ‘filters’ to make themselves look more appealing - who are complete strangers, often just looking for a free meal.

Neither side ends up happy. If a woman finds a ‘hit’ on a first date, then what? The guy is probably a 10% Chad. He probably wants sex. If he doesn’t get it he’ll just move on to another one waiting in line. If she gives it he doesn’t respect her....and moves on to the next in line. This also leaves 90% of men never getting a date.

Most men are left thinking that women have insane expectations and walk away. Most women are left thinking ‘men are trash’....when the problem is that the men they are dating are trash.

I’d argue its just made it harder for a good man and a good woman to meet, the opposite of what you might expect. Dating apps have ruined dating.
