“ I’m new to all this Medicare stuff. It’s unbelievably confusing”
It is mind boggling. Just horrible. Such typical government complicated bureaucratic crap.
Get a broker to advise you. We did and it,was a Godsend. I don’t think we had to pay her, either.
The insurance company pays their insurance salespeople commissions.
This is what I did… A,B and G
If you’re not sure, I highly recommend the site below. They were super helpful, and free.

A broker reps many insurance companies, right?
So does the insurance company ultimately selected by the consumer pay the broker?
yes
Don’t know where you ended up on this, but if you watch enough videos, you’ll know the following:
1) Traditional Medicare (with a Supplemental and Drug Plan, of course) costs more when you’re younger (when you don’t need it as much), but costs much less if you end up with high medical needs. The rough cost is $4500 per year in Texas* if you don’t have significant drug costs...cost will increase over time, but at a steady rate. The best part of Traditional is if the doctor orders a test, it will be approved, provided it’s not experimental or something...no middle man as in insurance company.
*Using Supplemental Plan G, which is the most popular (although N might be a slightly better deal).
2) Think of “Medicare Advantage” as HMO-style coverage. For significant cost items, you will have to get insurance company approval - that is how they control costs. Keep in mind that everyone pays the Part B cost, which is $2200 per year (it’s included above for Traditional). Also beware that some of the goodies offered in Advantage Plans can be revoked or inconvenient (like having to drive 30 miles to an in-network dentist when plenty of other dentists are very close to you). Also, you need to check on coverage zones, as Advantage Plans often only cover a single state (except in emergencies).
3) You can certainly talk to Medicare Agent, but beware as their commissions are 3 times higher if they put you on an Advantage Plan, versus a Traditional Plan. Also, as mentioned in the thread - be careful about getting tricked by making a decision based on your current medical condition as a friend of mine made that mistake and regrets ending up on an Advantage Plan (I did warn him!).
Probably more things, but that’s all I can think of right now.
United Health does not own Humana.
Obama had help, didn’t he...
The EMR regs in GWB’s Porkulus helped make the independent doctor’s office extinct.
If any healthcare professional I see works for a health system, I may be his or her patient, but that provider doesn’t work for me.
That provider works for the health system signing his or her paychecks.
Medicare A and B
Plan G is Mutual of Omaha
Drug plan UHC
