It’s one of the oldest universities in the state, arguably the second best private university behind Stanford. Ranks fairly high nationally, top 40 or so. It had traditionally leaned conservative as it was founded by Methodists, though it’s unaffiliated to any religion now. Hefty price tag to go there so I’d guess either they are giving too much financial aid, or have become bloated with student services bureaucracy.

My husband got a master’s degree there through a program coordinated with aerospace companies for their employees. Far from worthless. It benefited his company for decades.

I know the most recent prior pastor for the Catholic student community on Campus.. so I get Facebook updates on their activities. These students are delightfully normal and happy. I couldn’t speak for the rest of the campus, except that the cheerleaders and the marching band seemed delightfully normal also.

I’ve also had to work on planning an event there, and found the staff to be wonderful.

I’ve also had dental work done at their school of dentistry. Absolutely top-notch people who treated me like a guest – no rush, no feeling of being a number in their system.

USC has their problems, but I think we continue to need them in Southern California. So I hope they’re able to turn around their circumstances.
