If the civil war had occurred in 1830, The South likely would have won it. By the time 1860 had rolled around, the North had had 100s of millions of Southern produced dollars pumped into it's economy, and so it was a lot stronger than it was in 1830.

The South should have left in the 1830s, and it's looking like it was foolish for them to have joined the Union in 1789 in the first place. It was a bad deal for them right from the beginning.
