That sounds so strange to me.
When I was growing up, the parents of all my friends were World War II veterans.
I knew where all their Fathers had fought, in which service, and their rank.
Closing fast on one century - incredible.
My dad’s parents were stationed in the Canal Zone on December 7th. I can remember them talking about it a lot. Grandaddy spent the day and night in the control tower. Grandmother organized all the wives and commandeered all the dark fabric availiable. They sewed blackout curtains and had them all up by early evening. Grandmother was a force to be reckoned with. My parents were deployed there in early ‘42. My sister was born there December 7, 1942. Dependents were returned stateside shortly there after.
