It is a hoax. I am sure that the NYT will have plenty of smear stories about Kash that they will claim came from Iranian (probably FBI) source. It is becoming easy to see the hoaxes developing after watching so many in the past.

It’s a setup hoax. By claiming Patel is a target of a foreign adversary they get all sorts of blanket unfettered authority to wiretap, eavesdrop, and snoop on the target - Patel.
Anyone who thinks Iran is not probing everywhere they can is either incredibly naive or being intentionally deceitful..
