“1896: Auburn’s “Greasy Railroad” Prank: As part of a long-standing rivalry between Auburn University and Georgia Tech, Auburn students greased the railroad tracks to prevent Georgia Tech’s train from arriving on time for a football game. The train, carrying the Georgia Tech team, was unable to stop and had to continue for five miles before coming to a halt. The team was forced to hike the remaining distance to the stadium, and Auburn went on to win the game 45-0.”
