I always have doubts about any sporting related economic impact statement. $7 billion dollars would be $16,200 per attendee. The last time I spent that much on a sporting event was never - even counting tickets, food and hotels for a long weekend.

They also have a bad tendency to not count canibalized spending from locals: if I go to a game and spend money on food and parking, would I have spent it on food and parking doing something else that day instead.

Yep, I sued to be big baseball fan, and did watch football too, and really got into nascar which I enjoyed, BUT the leagues ruined it all- i have quit watching all of them because they became so blatantly woke and preachy about it. Now it looks like f-1 is headed in the same direction sadly.

I do enjoy motogp and Superbike racing, which so far doesn’t seem to be too woke- I r3cord them over the summer, watch about 1/4 of them, and save the rest for the winter months to enjoy. I’m s5ill watching f-1, but not liking what I am seeing and hearing about th3 league, so who knows for how much longer i will watch.

Your doubts are absolutely correct.

Formula 1 is an American company?

Formula 1 is owned by Liberty Media, a USA company that bought Formula 1 in 2017 when they were deeply in debt. And now the USA has three races per year instead of the normal none or one.

"..Pit bunnies must go DEI?.."

Too late, already ruined. And because DEI is really just a bunch of creepy queer pedophiles, they replaced the hot girls with...wait for it..

..young boys and girls.

“...unrelenting high performance, Formula 1 recognizes the importance that diversity plays in introducing new perspectives and ideas, and in driving innovation, culture, and business results,”

So unrelenting that they will now take the Didn’t Earn Its.

Just when I thought the DEI crap was dying

It’s a global race, so lots of inherent diversity. There have been F1 races in 34 countries all over the world on every continent except Antarctica.

How much more diversity do they need

“we are clear that the only way to maintain and improve those exceptional standards is to welcome diversity of thought, ideas, and experiences.”

I defy you to show proof of this anywhere, at any time.

You are talking about people flying in from other countries, hotel stays, 3 meals a day in the city. F1 also have a very exclusive club which the uber rich spend insane amount of money.

But the point is the poster was griping about the city of Austin giving the race $25 million. Even if the race brought in $100 million, which would be $231 per person, they still make money

I was not aware of that.

When i worked in the CATV business, Liberty was the largest system owner in the country. They were not fun to work for. I guess they’ve mellowed in wokeness in the past 25 years. LOL

I like watching F1. Don’t really care about their politics as long as they don’t spill out onto the track. I know that is asking a lot.

It’s only a matter of time before they mandate electric race cars.

Just wow. ....just when everyone else starting to backtrack on DEI. Woke morons.

I DO believe that *customer service* can be improved by having a diverse group... so many cultures, languages, and backgrounds to interface with.

Outside that, how does it help with technical innovation? Physics and technology don’t care what color you are, what your culture is, what sexual orientation you have, etc.. By definition, you’re only lowering standards. If you’re choosing from a small pool of black women at the expense of more qualified men, 10x the number in that pool, you MUST be lowering standards.

The sport is fiercely competitive, and we’re all committed to employing the very best talent

If you are not focused 100 percent on merit and results, you are not “committed to employing the very best talent.”

For a great many believers, “quasi” would not be applicable to reality. That said, when DEI is about to die, in my opinion F1 is on track to shoot itself in the foot.

Sports and politics are poor bedfellows IMHO and sports bowing to corporate interests instead of their own, is not in keeping with the American way. I’d suggest getting on with a points system that appeals more to competition than the all glorified “win” would be more to my liking, but then what the hell do I know. I’ve only been a fan since 1958.

“..Pit bunnies must go DEI?..”

A sad day in F1 history.

Even sadder to see what replaced them.

Children being incorporated into an adult sport.
