Elon and Vivek: Please don't overlook real property

Posted on 11/26/2024 7:05:59 AM PST by bill andersen

It appears that Elon and Vivek are focused on eliminating unnecessary staff to obtain long-overdue budget cuts. They should not stop there however. There are huge amounts of egregious furnishings in these government departments. They should be confiscating it and sending it to government auction houses, with the proceeds going ONLY to national debt reduction. Here are some examples:

Apparently in the DOJ there is a $70k conference table. Seize this and replace it with folding tables and plastic chairs.

Seize all leather office chairs and hardwood desks and replace them with the cheapest stuff possible.

Except for law enforcement, seize all gym equipment in these federal bureaucracies and sell it off.

Shutter all cafeterias in federal agencies and sell off the equipment. Replace with vending machines or nothing at all.

Once Elon and Vivek and their "elves" get rolling on this there will be no stopping them. There is just so much stuff they can find to get to the auction house.

Years ago when I worked for the USAF I was wondering about the office furnishings. In my day’s in the Army offices had standard gray metal desks and other furnishings. This all disappeared with expensive wood furniture, paintings, paneling and whatever else money could buy for the offices of mere peons.

I also recall the days of “DX’ing” (direct exchange). Need a light bulb for your room? Fine, bring in the burned out one to supply and get a new one. Lose a tool? Buy another to replace it. It’s all changed to a free flow system of parts and goodies right out the door with no accountability.

There are so many areas to cut waste it’s unbelievable.

Why if it’s already paid for?

Use it and don’t buy anything new.

Replacing it with plastic means buying more, IOW, spending more money. Keeping it costs nothing.

The key is a moratorium on NEW spending.

If someone needs something, find out where in the federal monster it exists and use that.

I think far too much is spent on useless drug rehab programs. They don’t seem to work and the people either find new things to become addicted to, or go back to their favorites. If they OD, it’s on them.

My smile gradually increased as I read this. In Upstairs Downstairs terms, public servants are service staff and should be treated as "Downstairs". Furnishings and needless properties of the federal government probably amount to trillions in value.

Back in the ‘60s I had a Summer time job with a moving company that had a contract with the State Department in D.C. to do inter-office moves. Regularly we would go and replace perfectly good leather sofas and chairs take them back to the warehouse where they would be crated up and shipped to a factory in West Virginia. A couple weeks later they would come back in the same crates be uncrated and we would take them back to the offices where they came from.

The BIG MONEY FRAUD?
DEALS like Medicare Advantage made with Insurance Companies... Makes our horrible trade deals look like fair trade.

Wanna cut the head counts? Move federal offices to a desert bluff in New Mexico.
