Professor Dutton actually claims it’s a real thing. He calls them “mid-wits”.
They have Above average IQs usually and are smart enough to sense group trends like the WOKE movement and join it to get positive benefits like peer group acceptance. But not intelligent enough to fully think through and foresee consequences to society. Like woke women not having children because they became feminists, trans, gays (leading to destruction of the family).
Dumb people can’t sense new trends or don’t care and very intelligent people focus on creating things, solving problems etc.
So mid-wits are not the brain surgeons or the janitors in a hospital. They would often be the ones running PR, the mid-managers the HR department, the marketing directors …and in fact that’s where we see the social activists, the worst leftists.
Disturbingly they also are often career politicians.

That reminds me of the poem by Alexander Pope.
A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again. (excerpted)

“But not intelligent enough to fully think through and foresee consequences to society.”
Disturbimgly, though not admitedly in the slightest, very self-centered, even to the point of how they view consequences to others, where, only seensing how they would “feel” about some state of affairs, but never examining cause and affect for it, they ignoranrtly take up approval causes for some “oppressed” or “disadvantaged” or in some way “dicriminated group” - based on their feelings, not reasoning about any claimed condition. You will see such persons agreeing to or promoting various causes, though some of the csusses may really be at odds with each other, if someone just examinged them rationally.
This whole group of folks are just like the folks in academia who accept an allegation as “correct” not because of any motivation of someone against another, but merely contioned on how someone “feels” about something someone said or did. Reason would examine motivations and even see there was no adverse motivation but feelings care only about themselves. “I feel and therefor it must be true”.
Extend that to all sorts of causes and you have the arrogantly and willingly ignorant self-centered person who cannot see much less admit, that their position is 100% about themselves projected onto everything else.
