PLEASE!!!
It was very satisfying to see the ridiculously overhyped Colorado go down in flames. It’s also absurd that this Hunter guy is worthy of the Heisman trophy. No one would give two shits about Colorado if it wasn’t for the Deion Sanders hype, much of it being racial in nature.
Might get there in 2026 with 16 teams. Other lower tiered divisions had large playoffs for years. Div 2, 3 etc, for the love of the game.
Their victories over Navy and Army do nothing to burnish ND’s standing or reputation. These so-called “traditional rivalries” benefit nobody except those who receive the money, who couldn’t care less about the teams or players. It’s no rivalry, but instead a regularly scheduled human sacrifice that almost always sets up the academy teams for failure through savaging their morale. It’s a stupid and outdated tradition that should be ended. But that money...
The phony hype makes me want to vomit.
After seeing the list of firsts by Jeanty, it’s hard to figure why he’s not the lock. But then, hype keeps people tuned in, which means viewers, debates and, ultimately...yep, money.
Thanks to NIL, it will be interesting to see college kids out earning pros. Who knows, maybe some pro prospect will refuse a draft because he doesn’t want a drop in pay.
I still think the conferences need to divide into divisions, where every team in the division plays the other.
It’s ridiculous that Notre Dame, as an independent, doesn’t have to play in a Championship Game, like all the other schools do.
I like the idea of Conference Divisions, I would take it to an extreme, say you had a 20-team league broken down into 4, 5-team divisions.
On the last weekend of the season, you have a conference semifinal, the two winners advance to play in a conference championship, winner of the conference championship game advances into a 4-team national championship semifinal game.
The Locks (In No Matter What)
Oregon
Ohio State
Texas
Teams controlling their Destiny
Notre Dame
Miami
Georgia
Tennessee
Indiana
Penn State
SMU
Boise State
Arizona State
Teams Needing Help
Clemson
South Carolina
Tulane (if Conference Champion, need Arizona State to lose)
Texas A&M
If the the Illini beat Northwestern next weekend, I think it is likely they will play one of those teams in a post season game..
Well said.
But I still wanted to see Army win. :(
There was great respect between these two coaches. We had been living in Cbus for 7 years by the time Bo passed, so I had become acquainted with the rivalry much closer than I had growing up in Florida. I remember watching that game on tv, and the silence was definitely longer than a minute. Do you remember the band called “The Schembechlers”? There was a piece about them on a news segment right about that time. If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t Bo an assistant under Woody?
It took me a couple of years to understand that Columbus thought of itself as a college town. I grew up in Gainesville, so my version of college town was different. Besides that, Columbus is the state capital, so it surprised me to see Buckeye coverage on the front page of the paper every day, all year long. The Browns and the Bengals stories were in the sports section, but anything Ohio State was always on the front page.
Once I realized the college town identity, I understood how to try to fit in there. So I learned to cheer for both teams, even when they played each other! I was in a no lose situation. I was happy when either team won.
Last night, both the Gators and the Buckeyes won again, so I am a happy camper. Next Saturday looms ahead of us though. Any given day.
That’s a better summary than I’ve seen on any “sport’s channel.”
I love watching glory day games. Yesterday was great!
Tennessee, due to their loss to Georgia, cannot play in the SECCG, and that may be a good thing for them, since now all they have left is Vandy. They would surely get in as an at-large, whereas the team that loses the SECCG may get shutout.
Yup. It was a few minutes. I was there in person.
Do you remember the band called “The Schembechlers”?
Only vaguely.
There was a piece about them on a news segment right about that time. If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t Bo an assistant under Woody?
Yup.
Re the rest of your post, yeah while Columbus is the state capital, Ohio State dominates well pretty much anything around there. And also yea Go Buckeyes and Go Gators! (I lived in West Palm for a while.)
So who did you root for in 2007, when we played for the Football and Basketball titles?
I’ve only been to Buckeye games at the Shoe 4 times…in 25 years in Cbus. Hubby and our two sons have a few more under their belts. It is a thrill to go to the Shoe; it has a magnificent architecture.
The Swamp is also a cool place. When I was in HS, we had cross town rivalry games there. Can’t beat that.
Actually I should have Texas A&M still controlling their destiny since they get in the SECCG with a win over Texas, but they still will have to probably win, to get in as an Automatic seed, if they lose the SECCG, they might not get an At-Large spot.
Once in a while, a service academy football team can beat Notre Dame at Notre Dame. Air Force beat the Irish in 2007. Great game!
