A Tennessee man is grieving the deaths of his seven dogs who were shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy while the owner and his wife were out to dinner.

On Monday, Nov. 4, Kevin Dismuke and his wife left their home in McNairy County to go to dinner, Fox 13 reports.

When his wife returned to their home on Finger Leapwood Road, she called him with shocking news.

“She said, ‘Poe is dead,’” he said, referring to one of their pet dogs.

According to News 3, Dismuke said he returned home to find all of his dogs except one were dead.

“They were told the property was abandoned and the dogs were malnourished,” Dismuke added, News 3 reports. “I got the veterinary paperwork in my truck from three weeks ago. They all had a clean bill of health on them.”

Dismuke said a neighbor told him a deputy came to his house while he was gone and shot the dogs, Fox 13 reports.

Dismuke and his family are heartbroken over the deaths of their beloved dogs.

“I don’t care if you give me $10 if you give me $10 million," he told News 3. "You can’t replace my dogs.”

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which launched an investigation on Nov. 7, the incident began when the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department received an animal welfare concern call on Nov. 4.

There needs to be an investigation of who called the sheriff’s office. Did the dog owner and the caller have issues b/t the two? Was the call a revenge call? Did the caller know the shooting deputy? What were the investigation instructions given to the deputy, if any. Had there been other issues, like barking, growling, etc. with the dogs?

Unless the animals presented an *immediate* threat to humans, no way should they have been executed. You work thru legal channels, get animal control involved and what not.

I would put the Gang Banger with a Badge on DEATH ROW, or General Population in the County Jail, S0 the other convicts will take care of the problem for us

If this deputy did this to my dogs, he would have made the biggest mistake in his life if he did not kill me too.

Yup. My dogs are part of my family. Jail would be the safest place for this... person... to be.

Just damn.

Way too often a police officer does something terrible, and then gets fired or is forced to resign. Then he pops up with another department down the road.

Arrogant bastard won't be able to help himself. He'll show up again, and be easy to find. He ought to be checking his six fort the rest of his miserable existence.

Thank you for injecting some sanity into this discussion.

It is understandable that people have strong feelings about their pets. To say dogs are “murdered” does a disservice to the English language.

Murder is a legal term.

It would be more correct to say the dogs were killed without legal justification.

In these threads about animals, there is a lot of emotion and little logic.

Thank you for injecting some sanity into this discussion.

The emotionalism shown on these threads always reminds me of these memes.
