Dendrochronology antedates radiocarbon dating, but as the technology arrived and then improved, it was possible to use smaller samples, so dating individual rings led to a merging of the two disciplines. You may have seen "calibrated" and "uncalibrated" RC dates? The calibrated results have been "wiggle matched" to see where the sequence of C14 variation matches up with the contiguous data gathered over years.

“calibrated” and “uncalibrated”

I’ll keep an eye out for that.
