One way not to be taken as a serious threat to Putin is to make unhinged public comments that would virtually eliminate them from contention. They sound crazy. They advance his agenda. But no one takes them seriously. Even if Putin slipped on some bullets in the shower and died, Dmitry Medvedev would not be considered a candidate to replace him because of the unserious things he’s said.
