They are not natural, so they can only come from man-made plastics.
Everyone is breathing them, in those same concentrations, each day.

I worked for many years as a Hazmat Officer in charge of a Hazmat Team. We had a saying, “The solution to pollution is dilution.” In almost every case this means that below a certain level even extremely toxic substances are harmless. This certainly applies in this situation. The most harmful aspect of this type of story is the anxiety that it causes in many people.
They only measured these chemicals in “commuters” and admit they don’t know where they came from. What kind of car were they in, were the windows open, how new was the car, were they on a bus? A train? Etc. there is so much missing from this study as to not really mean much other than to gin up fear.
I am sure there is a lot of weird stuff being inhaled along SoCal freeways but I don’t see any conclusions about the rest of the areas.
But then again. Trust the science...
