“Or, the Amazon employees could stop voting Democrat and see the city go back to what they moved there for.”

or better yet they could move back to India where they came from, and take Kamala Sawant back with them

Edit: I meant Kashama Sawant

I know its a Freeper tradition to comment prior to reading the article but this was in the excerpt:

“an increase from the current three-day-a-week mandate that has been in place since May 2023.”

You are probably still in shock from the Yankees loss.

Let that sink in.

IF they were paid straight commission(like me) then they should be able to work wherever they want.

If they are paid piece meal. ditto.

They are paid a salary. IF they want to keep getting their salary then they need to do wan their employer wants or GO FIND ANOTHER JOB.

Nobody’s irreplaceable, it’s just a question of how much it’s going to cost in time and money.

The Walz/O’Bama/Bidenskkyyyyyyyy/Harriz administration created 12,000 jobs last month. Nows a good time to get out there looking for a job if you get your ass fired and not interested in getting a new job.

Good approach—those who perform should make the rules—not a bunch of jerk dictatorial managers.

I am in favor of working at home but if the numbers went the other way then I would be fine with it.

When you say you "would be fine with it," does that mean: 1) fine with going back to work if it improves the bonus, or 2) accepting the reduced bonus if you could stay at home (even if the rest of the team wants the money)?

Either way would be fine—if the process is fair I am good with it.

My objection is stupid mandates from bosses which assert productivity gains without evidence to support their claims.

Well consider the unintended pay increas all these workers received in not having to pay gas ⛽️ , maintenance, wear and tear on their cars, buying lunch and expensive crappy Star*ucks coffee, and the plus of not having to personally interact with other employees….and that doesn’t even taken into account the working in your underwear and screwing off factor.

When I worked at home (before I retired) it was the time not wasted in a long commute that was a big bonus.

The lower stress not commuting was a multiplier.

“It’s OK that’s not how everyone thinks that’s how they want to work,” Garman told The Times. “You can choose to go work for another company … Employees get to make the call.

The problem with that reasoning is that the employees who make the call to leave will be the best employees - the ones most in demand at other companies. Sure, you'll be left with the employees who agree to show up five days a week - and you'll also be left with a non-trivial reduction in the quality of your work force.

If anyone can’t handle coming to the office, quit and find a different job. Problem solved. Who do they think they are anyway?

So you hire more people. Why do white collar workers think they’re so special?

"The problem with that reasoning is that the employees who make the call to leave will be the best employees..."

Amazon has set up a controlled experiment to test that hypothesis. Seriously, I'm interested in the results.

Me too. One solitary data point - my brother worked (past tense) for AWS in Austin. He just started his new job. The five-day a week announcement was a no-go for him.

Now that Bezos has stepped on the Washington Post’s fat egos, negative stories about Amazon will become more common.

Jeff Bezos should fire everyone at WaPo. Relocate the headquarters to Dubai. Make it more like The Daily Mail.

That’s one solution - the other might be to do the usual buy outs and downsizings - but replace those that leave with conservatives until the paper represent the POLITICAL IDEAS OF THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES...
