I started believing early on that Gowdy had to be compromised. He talked a heckuva fight but produced exactly zero legislative proposals to fix anything. I suspect he didn’t even have much, if any, of a staff. Couldn’t find out, anyway. And he never performed on committees either. Early on I wanted to support him but even his fund raising was ineffective. Just weird.
Congressional committees can only investigate, then write a report and send a referral to the DOJ. Once they’ve done that their job is done. If the DOJ is in enemy hands and takes no action on the referral there’s little that can be done. As I remember it Gowdy did that.
