I always have considered this option to be dumb as hell. Given the amount of effort and energy it takes to get stuff up there it would behoove EVERYONE to move masses like this into either a very high orbit, or take up the fuel (or build/generate in-situ) to push it into a Lagrange point scrapyard, or even drag it to the moon. It’s not logical to bring all that refined metal, tubing, wire, etc... back down the gravity well here.
