“Btw—governments spend billions of dollars trying to keep all kinds of military and intelligence secrets.”
Yet, very little is actually a secret. Very little. Ephemeral data is usually the only secret because of its short lifespan.
Classification is usually to protect budgets, not secrets. There are many modern examples of programs becoming unclassified and not suffering catastrophic results.
Zero whistleblowers does not mean a secret was kept, just that those that knew didn’t care to blow a whistle. Not important enough.
“Not important enough”
For who?
The Japanese-Americans who got hauled off to camps for years?
The folks who did it were ashamed of what they did (after the war) and were afraid they would become social outcasts (at a minimum).
It was very important to the secret-keepers. That is why they took the secret to their death bed.
I wish you could convince the military industrial complex that the classification system should be abolished because it “does not work”.
Imho they would all laugh you out of the room.
The solution….
I like the Air Force solution better.
If you are a pilot and you see a UFO close your eyes, count to one hundred and hope they go away.
If they are still there then rinse and repeat.
Remember—if your plane crashes while you do this it will be written up as “pilot error”.

Weather balloons full of swamp gas..............
Please explain this to all the intelligence agencies of governments and even corporations around the world.
How many trillions of dollars have they wasted to trying to keep secrets they could never possibly keep?
Lol.
