New Yorker’s were left awestruck Thursday night when the night sky was illuminated by a breathtaking aurora borealis display over the Big Apple.
“It has been a LONG time since we’ve seen visible aurora over NYC,” X account New York Metro Weather wrote in a post that included a photo of the vibrant shades of purple and pink visible high above the bustling city streets.
“And it will likely be a long time until we see it again. Go outside and look up!”

They were seen in NE TN, I’ve been told.
My daughter sent me pictures yesterday. The sky was purple. I wish i could post a picture but I don’t know how to. The sky was just turning dark but there was a bright purple color that seemed to form below the night sky.
The sky over my area of CT was a purple 🟣 color. It didn’t have any red just purple. I’ve never seen anything like that before.
Cool. Women in my Bible group this morning were talking about seeing it here (near Charlotte) last night, but I wasn’t outside at 10:30.
As I was walking home, somebody yelled “Look up! Look up! It’s the aurora borealis! It’s a once in a lifetime event!” I looked up and saw what looked like a long dull cloud faintly stretching across the sky. I guess that was impressive in a way, but it wasn’t much.
Interesting how they can be different colors!
