It became a blue state b/c a huge influx of illegals moved in, and their children could vote, and they voted overwhelmingly Democrat because virtually all immigrant groups vote Democrat for at least 2 generations (Irish, Italians, Poles, etc.). Mexican-Americans were also overwhelmingly working-class, whereas the Republican Party before Trump was much more white collar.
