I was a LT at the time and as such, the junior man on the staff. One day I was tagging along at the back of the pack on the way over to the O-club for lunch when the admiral ran into a Senior Chief who had been a 2nd class petty officer on the admiral's first cutter. The admiral remembered the man's name, his wife's name and the name of his kids. This explained why I never had to tell the admiral ANYTHING twice.
Every flag officer I ever worked for had an eidetic memory. I just wish the Chiefs of Staff had the same.
