Innisbrook - My dad, in his later years, attended 4 or 5 gatherings of the 86th infantry division, US Army, from WW2. He never spoke of the war with us kids, probably not with too many people. Such is the thing when you are put in a situation where killing is kind of the norm. I’m sure there were scars.
But as he got older, he took up the offer and went to the conferences. Not to relive, but maybe to just meet with people that had been through similar. Maybe to heal a bit even.
We knew he saw action, but we never really knew much about it.
I did find out, from my mother, that dad had jumped off a troop truck with his trusty BAR and managed to take out several German infantry that had attempted to ambush his group. Somewhat of a hero, but he never talked about it. It was in Innisbrook that his action was noted again.
I know that it is also a great golf club, a very nice course. Private club of sorts. Hopefully, the saltwater won’t get to it. I will say that being on the “good” side of the hurricane, most of the flooding in that area will be freshwater rather than saltwater.

I like the sound of that!
Amen
Again, why waste a date for New Your City that late in the race? Does he think he can win New York?

You’ve both reassured me. I worry about Orlando too, a frequent destination with dozens of very good courses within a 30 minute drive. I’m concerned less for me than for the state’s citizens who depend on all of the tourism to keep taxes and prices low and the infrastructure strong.
You must be very proud of your Dad. Most men back then were quiet, humble, honorable and very decent men and citizens.
Florida can take A LOT of rain. It just runs through the sand.
It’ll be OK for Florida. This isn’t their first rodeo. They usually get a couple of hurricanes a year. This one is on the stronger side, but it’s not going to ruin the state.
I was visiting my parents in the early 2000s, in Central Florida and had the pleasure of experiencing Hurricane Jeanne move across the state. It wasn’t a high category storm, might have been a 2 initially, dropped to a 1 while it was passing us, but it was like an all day storm with wind and rain, nonstop, for hours.
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. — II Timothy 4:18 (ESV)
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. — II Peter 1:21 (ESV)
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. — Psalm 90:2
Yeah, he was quiet (usually), humble (mostly), and honorable and decent. He had a bit of a temper, which apparently, I’ve inherited. As has one of my sisters.
Anyway, yes, I am proud of him and his service. It must have bothered him that he had to do this, since he never talked about it. The only war story he would tell was when they liberated a winery somewhere in France. :)
Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. — Psalm 1:16 (ESV)
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. — Romans 14:8 (ESV)
