Ukraine's Nazi problem is real, even if Putin's 'denazification' claim isn't

SNIP

When German troops took control of Kyiv in 1941, they were welcomed by “Heil Hitler” banners. Soon after, nearly 34,000 Jews — along with Roma and other “undesirables” — were rounded up and marched to fields outside the city on the pretext of resettlement only to be massacred in what became known as the “Holocaust by bullets.”

The Babyn Yar ravine continued to fill up as a mass grave for two years. With as many as 100,000 murdered there, it became one of the largest single killing sites of the Holocaust outside of Auschwitz and other death camps. Researchers have noted the key role locals played in fulfilling Nazi kill orders at the site.

That includes an updated law passed last month criminalizing antisemitic acts. Unfortunately, the law was intended to address a pronounced uptick in public displays of bigotry, including swastika-laden vandalism of synagogues and Jewish memorials, and eerie marches in Kyiv and other cities that celebrated the Waffen SS.

In another ominous development, Ukraine has in recent years erected a glut of statues honoring Ukrainian nationalists whose legacies are tainted by their indisputable record as Nazi proxies. The Forward newspaper cataloged some of these deplorables, including Stepan Bandera, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), whose followers acted as local militia members for the SS and German army. “Ukraine has several dozen monuments and scores of street names glorifying this Nazi collaborator, enough to require two separate Wikipedia pages,” the Forward wrote.

There's plenty of 'Russia is everything that's wrong with the world!' in NBC's article. I think people were asking back in March of 2022, why the U.S. would put money into Ukraine with it's Nazi 'problem' and the Biden crime family's actions there, and so NBC was trying to 'balance' the scales somehow.

Two images and a post from the comments in that thread.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s justification for invading Ukraine, claiming that the “denazification” of the country was “one of the dumbest things I’d ever heard.”

“I thought it was one of the dumbest things I’d ever heard,” Carlson told Fridman. “I didn’t understand what it meant.”

“I hate that whole conversation because it’s not real,” he continued. “It’s just ad hominem. It’s a way of associating someone with an evil regime that doesn’t exist anymore.”

Revmaxx is a Russian troll. HE’s been outed a few times. But as a reminder-

Tucker fans hardest hit. Tucker has no idea about the Ukrainian embrace of Nazism.

Some think Putin’s obsession with de-Nazification has to do with his brother dying in the siege of Leningrad:

It seems like a personal thing although Nazis draw a very negative reaction from Russians, for good reason.

So I guess that all modern Ukrainians must be guilty of being Nazis because some collaborated with them 80 years ago. In like manner, all modern Germans must still be Nazis, all modern Frenchmen must be Nazis because of their collaborators during WWII, all modern Russians must be Stalinists, all modern Americans must be pro-slavery racists, etc., etc., etc.

This attempt to paint the Ukrainians as Nazis is just an attempt to dehumanize them and justify Putins actions. In the meantime, those who cry “the Ukrainians are Nazis” are silent as Russia invades Ukraine and bombs its cities, targeting civilians.

Correct. Russian chauvinists and their useful fools dehumanize Ukrainians to justify stealing their country and their mass murder if necessary. History shows in fact that such rhetoric is a prototypical “Nazi” tactic and what happens when it is done. It is no different than Marxist Democrats smearing us as a danger to Democracy for supporting President Trump and encouraging his murder. It’s lazy and stupid gaslighting that only the dimmest bulbs are duped by.

Take comfort in your belief that It’s OK if your side does it, but it’s not OK if the other side does it.

So you're reduced to posting two and a half year old articles to try and make some sort of stupidly wrong point?

What a joke!

Ukraine's alleged Nazi problem is irrelevant. The closing paragraph from the NBC News article:
But even if some elements of the country have been entangled with one of history’s most loathsome movements, standing with Ukraine is without doubt the honorable posture to take in this drama. Right now, every day that Putin ratchets up his assault against the Ukrainian people with scorched-earth zeal, it’s hard not to see who truly deserves the N-word.

You have yet to show me where Ukraine has engaged in terrorism.

NBC news and Newsweek, are two (un)reliable sources for truth and insight. We are already off to a bad start, compounded by extreme side-taking. Yet I would like to understand the Ukrainian-Nazi connection to the extent that it exists.

Some Jewish people are very accomplished and have a high profile. This can be a problem for an ethnic minority. It does not matter whether one is a prominent Jewish capitalist or a prominent Jewish communist, either way it can lead to some anti-Jewish feelings.

I think of the Holodomor as the Ukrainian holocaust. Joseph Stalin was responsible. I do wonder about the level of Jewish participation in early Soviet communism, especially in regard to the Holodomor. Is there something here, or were Ukrainians simply fellow travelers of Germany?

In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Ukraine's Nazi problem is real, even if Putin's 'denazification' claim isn't, Petrosius wrote:

I've never seen any assertion that all Ukrainians are Nazi's. Certainly, I've never said all Ukrainians are Nazi's. I have seen Ukrainian war advocates on FR post that 'the only good Russian is a dead Russian' and that 'Russians are sub human.'

From the start I posted that the citizens are in need, but their government will take the money and never use to to help them.

I've written repeatedly about the forgotten Ukrainian citizens in the crossfire, how many have undured such hardships (conscription, deprivation, refugees). I wrote about conscription teams waiting in bomb shelters to seize men escaping their homes to supposed 'safety'. I've written about the government conscripting men and boys from 16 to 70 (and the older men are sometimes disabled - it doesn't matter to the gov).

I specified Azov's and provided media photos of Nazi supporters - that's not 'everyone'. I've advocated for Ukrainian soldiers - how their lives are being wasted, how they will likely be prevented from surrendering in Kursk because NATO/Zelensky don't care about them. I've written about the organ harvesting of untreated wounded soldiers etc. I've posted several times about the child trafficking and organ harvesting in the Ukraine; those posts are in defense of the Ukrainian citizens and children upon whom monsters prey.

I don't believe Russia targets civilians. I believe civilians are caught in the crossfire, as is true in all such conflicts.
