IMHO the only problem with the Punitive Expedition is that we defined success as being only with the capture or kill of Pancho Villa. If we had defined it as: killing however many people it took to make sure folks south of the border never attacked us again for the rest of their lives … then it was a huge success.

and we were unsuccessful in getting Poncho because Wilson was afraid of igniting a war with Mexico.
