My ‘18 JL has been relatively issue free. One quirk it has is occasionally I hear a loud pop through the speakers and the entertainment center will shut itself off.....after a couple of seconds I can power it back on. When that happens the clock resets itself to 12:00.....damn weird.
It seems however since I bypassed that stupid “parasite” battery that runs the auto start/stop function (which I also disabled) it seems to do it less frequently.
If you can get rid of that little battery n yours I’d highly recommend it.
I just pointed out where Hyundai is on the list above. I make no claims one way or the other. I've owned three Hyundais and one Kia. I have a 2010 Santa Fe that is having engine issues now. It's in the middle of the test for excessive oil consumption. They extended my 10-year warranty on it to 15 years or 150k because of the engine lawsuits. It only has 85k on the clock. If they don't cover it for engine replacement then going to drive it until it pukes all over itself and buy an older Toyota to replace it. The Kia isn't giving us any issues and is just over three years old to us. It's not driven much. We have less than 16k on it.
Luckily mine is under the primary battery.
I have a chip that disables the stop start, so once that battery is no good i’ll pull it out.
Thanks for the heads up on that quirk.
The Older JL’s we towed all the time for random electrical issues, but we hardly see any towed past 22 unless they’re accidents.
Don’t wait too long on pulling that little battery....if that sucker cracks and leaks there’s no telling what the battery acid might damage.
My 2008 ML 350 is about to turn 100,000 miles on the odometer and I can attest that it has been the most reliable, trouble-free car I have ever owned. The list includes 3 BMW’s 2 Porsches, 2 Camry’s, 2 VW Sirocco’s, 1 Volvo, a couple of Crown Vic’s and a Jeep.
LOL...About the same time as our owning the Toyota Sienna van, we bought a VW Jetta for the kids to use in high school. It burned as much oil as the Sienna! It was almost ONE QUART of oil per fill-up of gasoline! I never understood how it could have functioning spark plugs.
We have a special knack for vehicle selection!
I’ve owned American, Japanese, Korean, British, Italian and German Automobiles.
THEY ALL BREAK DOWN EVENTUALLY..................
Had the 78 Champagne edition Scirocco, loved it. It just didn't last, rust, used oil, etc.
They received a score of 56- right next to KIA and Buick
But speaking of SUVs - my neighbors used to have a Nissan Xterra.
The thing was no end of trouble.
But my father and myself loved his old ‘74 Jeep Wagoneer.
Even though it was a rust bucket that did not run well.
But it KEPT RUNNING - after a fashion anyway.
I think that when AMC took Jeep over they started making Jeep’s out of cheaper steel.
The thing must have been the Recycled Beer Can Wagon. MAJOR heavy duty rust.
I wish I’d taken a picture of it.
Different production factories.
Different engineering designs.
Different parts quality.
ps: Bugatti is also owned by VW and the $4M Chiron is certainly different & far superior from VW, Porche, Audi.
A baby’s arm holding an apple!
$2400 to replace the AC compressor on my Camry with 70k miles. Another thousand for a sensor under the intake manifold. Give me a 66 Dodge Dart with a slant 6. I can fix it myself.
Whoever invented the slant six should be in the pantheon of the world’s greatest thinkers.
I remember telling my father that the world was a better place when you could lift the hood and see straight through to your sneakers.
