I like the four glory holes on the facade.

I’m sure they remind a lot of San Franciscans of their first date.

The answer lies within the pages of The Fountainhead.

Correct. Dull, ugly art inspires a dull, ugly civic spirit and pessimism (nihilism). The artists who lead the Renaissance, and the Americans who were responsible for the Greek Revival, and I dare say it, Art Nouveau (okay, euros here) and Art Deco were striving for beauty and symmetry.

Beauty inspires beauty and optimism.

“Maybe not. “Urban Renewal” tore down slums and moved millions of the urban poor into buildings like those in St. Louis, Chicago, New York, LA and many other cities. It was a total disaster and they were all torn down.”

I wonder why that did not occur in Russia

Off the top of my pointy head..

Tri calcium silicate.

Probably got it wrong.

Didn’t the Romans cure their concrete with lime?

5.56mm

It’s not the material it’s what is done with it. That’s what I learned from reading the full article.

Absolutely correct. For further information, read Tom Wolfe’s “From Bauhaus to Our House.” And for an historical perspective, check out “ Brunelleschi’s Dome” by Ross King…not the biggest but certainly the most brilliantly innovative and ingeniously designed church from the Renaissance.

Demolishing the Richfield building was a crime.

We Romans invented concrete.

Apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us?

It’s nice to see in Detroit they are now finally restoring a lot of the old buildings, thankfully they never demolished them.

It’s not the material but how it’s used. That’s what I learned from reading the full article. The Parthenon is a concrete structure.

Absolutely. I just watered my Zinnias because they still flourish. Most people I see throughout my daily excursion have them ready to seed. In the eye of the beholder.

BTW we have been without water from the sky for over a week here.

Get a load of these new MacDonalds. Sort of like pre-1984 attractiveness. Soon, the number called out will be our own, and maybe not called out, but a faint electronic jolt.

Probably because they could not afford it.

Some places were destroyed during the war, which was a form of "urban renewal".
