And where did the rifle come from? Who sighted in the scope?
If he even makes a peep about talking, he won’t live long. They have done it before, they can do it again.
Any trial is years in the future.
He claims to have no money yet drives a big SUV and has all this expensive gear. Flies to Hawaii, Europe and Asia at will and talks to high government officials.
This stinks bigly.
He was supposed to die in the attempt like Crooks, but didn’t get off a single shot, then took off like a scared jackrabbit at the first sign of trouble........And he was volunteering to fight for Ukraine?
This is absolute idiocy...................
This reminds me of the movie, “Point of No Return” where a murderer (Bridget Fonda) was groomed into an assassin by a stealthy government organization.
I’m betting the government will pull another Oswald.
It was a modified SKS, so I’m guessing he got it cheap.
I’m saying he has a week before martyrdom.
Only above 500 million firearms in the USA. About 1/3 are rifles.
He probably got it on the black market, because the serial number was removed.
It seems to be one of millions of SKS rifles imported surplus from China, Russia, and a couple of other places.
They are good, serviceable rifles, but not the first choice for sniping.
My brother has one in the same setup. The scope mounting is not optimum because the rifle was not designed with optics in mind.
I am told it is about a 3 minute of angle rifle, which is to say, about a 3 inch group at 100 yards.
My brother has plenty of rifles which will hold 1/2 inch at a hundred yards.
In WWII, the Garand had to hold 4 inch groups at a hundred yards to meet specifications. Of course, many would do much better.

Exactly. Now, no doubt, he could be getting bucks from all these corrupt “Non-Profits” but it is hard for me to imagine this person, an American, traipsing around in Ukraine, hobnobbing with high level people, wouldn’t have been closely watched.
Something does indeed stink “bigly” as you say.
FTA-—Trump haters tried and tried but have “Nothing” to show for the encyclopedic
catalog of lawfare concocted to drain his wealth and stuff him into a prison cell.
Astounding how amateurish they were:
<><> Engoron and Merchan, two boobs straight out of “Judicial Error Central Casting.”
<><>Fani Willis, a walking-talking over-ripe banana peel.
<><>Merrick Garland, “saving democracy” one abuse of power at a time!
<><>The Butler, PA, head-shot op came awfully close to eliminating their problem, but no cigar.
<><>The Palm Beach golf course ambush had a Peter Sellers vibe-—
<><>Closeau eyeing a rifle muzzle poking thru shrubbery behind a fence.
<><>What next? A pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and cyanide?
<><>Maybe drop an anvil on Mr. Trump’s head from a passing airplane?
Where Harvey Keitel played a creepy mob crime scene “cleaner”, and was pouring acid on some “dead” bodies to delay identification and one of the “dead bodies” started screaming? Keitel shrugged and kept pouring the acid. That movie?
Even IF..... Routh was living large on un monitored “donations” from NGOs to help Ukraine, don’t you think our alphabet agencies had eyes on him all the time?
Where to get a black market gun out of state? I would not know where to start.
A classic method is the straw man purchase, where you have someone else purchase the firearm for you.
Then you obtain the firearm, and if you destroy the serial numbers, the firearm cannot be easily traced to the person who purchased it originally.
If you have fake ID, you can use that.
It appears this person's plan was to leave the rifle at the crime scene, as the serial numbers had been removed.
Straight out theft is a method which is a little more risky.
I got a Serbian manufactured one around 15 years ago when Big 5 was still doing a lot of “curio/relic” sales. It was $400, and it’s a damn good rifle for its design/age. Mounting an optic on it is sub-optimal, I obtained a mount, but have been insufficiently motivated to grind and tweak on it to place the adaptor, and the optic would just be a dot so I’m leaning towards just staying iron. If I need to hit things way way out there, I’ve got a 24X on my M1A 😎
