How many grams of cinnamon does the average person consume over, say, a year? Can’t be that much. At about 3.5 micrograms of lead per gram of the very worst cinnamon, I don’t see how anyone could ever notice any toxic effect that could be proven to result from cinnamon consumption and not from some other source of lead.
Just journalists trying to scare people.
Absolutely it’s fear mongering.
Assuming the very worst brand of cinnamon, and doing A little math…
If you ate an entire pound of cinnamon in a year - which IMO would be an awful lot - 16 oz times 28 grams in an ounce times 3.5 micrograms of lead per gram…
….Equals 1.568 milligrams of lead. Over the course of an entire year. Wonder how much you ingest just by living??
Now, if I took large amounts of cinnamon medicinally? Maybe I might pay attention. But otherwise? Much ado about nothing.
When red dye #whatever was in the headlines back in the 70’s, our science teacher said you’d have to eat a train car full of red lipstick for it to have any affect. Guessing that’s the case here along with most everything that’s going to kill us. Well, Boar’s Head products may be an exception.
I never liked cinnamon until 15 years ago when I met my first friend in this town. I had just pulled out of my driveway into the street and came to a screeching halt when I saw a woman walking a Corgi. Our family has had Corgis since 1966.
Became friends with owner, Belva Ann, who loved cinnamon. She told me I had to buy Simply Organic Ceylon Cinnamon, and it did taste. better. Friend died, I forgot I had cinnamon in the cabinet , but there it is. “Acceptable” on this list, but I’ll toss some in my cereal tomorrow morning, enjoy it along with fond memories.
