The interesting thing is that almost none of the NIU kids were portal players. They played their butts off and ND did not take them seriously.
Just watching the ND fans weep at the end of the game was fun.

My alma mater Huskies have not used the portal (at all, iirc)...lots of seniors. there’s lots of Chicago talent, but Dekalb is no garden spot

I agree, call it what it is now, pro football.
Virtually all starters are transfers from other colleges. Between the portal and the NIL money many get, they are pros—not student athletes!
The Notre Dame QB played for 3 years at DUKE. It’s ridiculous.

They have also nade the post season Bowl games a complete joke—as most seniors will not play, risking injury—and losing their chance to go pro or transfer to another college next year. Again, college football players now are hardly student athletes, they are pros.
Heck, I think Arch Manning at Texas made more money than the Chicago Bears starting QB this year. And he hasn’t really even played yet.
